Full Bio

A lifetime in service of safer, smarter spaces

Dr. Olumide Aina, FFM, CCAP, MNSE, is a distinguished Facilities Management professional, Mechanical Engineer, author, and innovator. With over two decades of experience, he is one of the most respected voices in Nigeria's and Africa's built environment — a leader whose influence spans academia, industry, standards bodies, and continental professional associations.

As President of the Association of Facilities Management Practitioners of Nigeria (AFMPN), he has championed the professionalisation of FM in Nigeria — driving national standards, policy reform, and the adoption of innovative technologies. His mission, "Safer Lagos for a Greater Lagos," reflects a commitment to building cities where people can live, work, and thrive safely.

On the continental stage, Dr. Aina serves as Nigeria's Ambassador to the Africa Facility Management Association (AFMA) and holds the office of Director of Education — shaping how the next generation of FM professionals across Africa are trained and credentialled. He also chairs the TC/267 and National Mirror Committee on ISO 41001:2018, the international standard for Facility Management, ensuring Nigeria's voice is heard in global standards development.

For a decade, Dr. Aina served as a Lecturer in Facilities Management at the University of Lagos, teaching at the Masters level and training over 7,000 students across academia and the professional environment with the rigorous foundation to lead in the built environment. His academic work grounds his innovations — including the patented eChecker Smart Meter & Carbon Intelligent Monitoring System — in engineering and management science.

His contributions have been recognised with the Green Champion Award from the Green Building Council of Nigeria (2024) and the Facility Manager of the Year award from the Africa Facility Management Association. He is also the author of "I Challenge You to Innovate" — with a foreword by Lara Paemen, Managing Director of IFMA EMEA — a practical guide for facility managers building smarter, more sustainable facilities.

Away from the office, Dr. Aina is an accomplished pianist and a competitive tournament chess player with a rating of 1847 — disciplines that reflect the same precision, creativity, and strategic depth he brings to his professional work.
